NSW councils seek infrastructure funding for housing growth

Local government councils in New South Wales are calling on the state government to increase infrastructure funding to keep pace with rapid housing and population growth.

Shellharbour City Council has endorsed a strategic advocacy plan for 2026-28, prioritizing five key projects. The council is seeking $20 million for Dunmore Road upgrades and $25 million to connect the Tripoli Way Extension to the M1 Princes Motorway. Officials noted that Dunmore Road is a critical access corridor for the upcoming Shellharbour Hospital and existing local services.

Similarly, the City of Canada Bay is demanding commitments for schools, health services, and transport to support significant high-density housing increases. Mayor Michael Megna stated that while the council has supported housing density, the state government must provide the necessary infrastructure to support the projected increase in residents and dwellings.
