NSW government allocates $25 million for safety upgrades on regional highways

The New South Wales government is investing $1.2 million to install flexible safety barriers along 12.8 km of the Silver City Highway and Sturt Highway. The project will add 44 new barrier sections and 70 end terminals, with work slated to begin this week and finish in about six weeks, including temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits.

Separately, a $23.7 million upgrade on the Golden Highway at Merriwa will create a new westbound overtaking lane on a key freight corridor linking Newcastle and Dubbo. Construction is expected to last around ten months and aims to reduce driver frustration, improve safety and boost freight reliability for commodities such as coal, grain and livestock. Both projects are part of the "Towards Zero Safer Roads" program announced by Transport for NSW officials Damien Pfeiffer, Acting Minister for Roads John Graham and Minister for the Hunter Yas Catley.
