NSW Government funds EV training at Muswellbrook TAFE with three vehicles

The New South Wales government announced a $53,900 investment to purchase three electric vehicles – two used and one new – for hands‑on automotive training at the Muswellbrook TAFE campus in the Upper Hunter region. Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Small Business Emily Suvaal made the announcement on behalf of the Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education, Steve Whan, and met with Muswellbrook mayor Jeff Drayton during the visit.

The EVs will be added to the college’s existing training fleet, giving students practical experience with modern electric‑vehicle systems, diagnostics and servicing. Council officials said the funding supports the region’s broader economic transition by building a local pipeline of skilled workers for emerging industries. The initiative comes as electric‑vehicle sales in Australia surge, with EVs accounting for almost 30 % of new vehicle sales in May 2026, marking a breakthrough for the nation’s transition to cleaner transport.
