NSW IPC requests extension for Hunter Valley Operations coal project

The New South Wales Independent Planning Commission (IPC) has requested a four-week extension to deliberate on the Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) Continuation Project. Additionally, the IPC has sought information regarding the minimum approval time required for an orderly transition at the site.

HVO is a joint venture between Glencore and Yancoal. The proposed project is the largest coal expansion in the state's history, aiming to extract 716 million tonnes of coal from the HVO North and HVO South mines. If approved, the project would extend the life of HVO North until 2045 and HVO South until 2042.
