NTPC REL Tenders 1.09 GW Battery Storage in Rajasthan; Aypa Power Brings 250 MW System Online in Arizona
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL) has issued an engineering‑procurement‑construction tender for a total of 1,090 MW/4,360 MWh of battery energy storage systems across three solar sites in Rajasthan, India. The projects include a 240 MW/960 MWh system at Devikot, a 550 MW/2,200 MWh system at Shimboo Ka Burj and a 300 MW/1,200 MWh system at Nokhra, all designed for four‑hour storage, a 25‑year design life, a minimum of 10,000 cycles and a 98 % dispatch‑capacity guarantee.
In the United States, Blackstone‑backed developer Aypa Power has commissioned the 250 MW/1,000 MWh Pediment battery energy storage system in Mesa, Arizona, under contract with utility Salt River Project (SRP). SRP officials said the new BESS adds flexibility and capacity to the grid, supporting SRP’s goal of an 82 % reduction in carbon intensity by 2035 and net‑zero emissions by 2050. A second 250 MW/2,000 MWh system is slated for completion in December 2028, bringing the combined capacity on SRP’s system to 500 MW/3,000 MWh.
