NTT Docomo Business and TEPCO Power Grid to deploy liquid-cooled data centers in Tokyo

NTT Docomo Business and TEPCO Power Grid have announced a partnership to deploy a ‘Container DC Park’ within Tokyo’s 23 wards to address the rising demand for data centers driven by generative AI.

The initiative focuses on containerized data centers utilizing liquid-cooling technology. This method is designed to efficiently manage the extreme heat generated by high-performance GPU servers required for AI processing, offering a more space-efficient and rapid deployment alternative to traditional building-based data centers.

The first project will be established in Ota City, Tokyo. The collaboration combines NTT Docomo Business’s network infrastructure and liquid-cooling expertise with TEPCO Power Grid’s stable power supply capabilities. The goal is to establish a decentralized deployment model in urban areas to mitigate data center shortages and support the ‘AI-Centric ICT Platform’ concept.
