Liquid-cooling deployment for AI data centers

Overview

Companies in South Korea and Japan are implementing liquid-cooling technologies in data centers to manage the high heat generated by generative AI and high-performance GPU servers.

In South Korea, LG CNS and Naver Cloud are collaborating to deploy Direct Chip Cooling (DTC) technology at the Samsong Data Center in Goyang. This infrastructure aims to support high-power density racks, such as those required for NVIDIA’s ‘Vera Rubin’ GPUs, by attaching cooling plates directly to chips. The project includes design, construction, and operation services to support AI services for public and corporate clients.

In Japan, NTT Docomo Business and TEPCO Power Grid are partnering to deploy ‘Container DC Parks’ within Tokyo. This initiative utilizes containerized data centers equipped with liquid-cooling to provide a space-efficient and rapid deployment model. The first project is slated for Ota City to address data center shortages and support an ‘AI-Centric ICT Platform’ through decentralized urban deployment.
