NTT Docomo expands ahamo plan to 40 GB, keeping price unchanged

From 1 August 2026, NTT Docomo raised the data allowance of its ahamo mobile plan from 30 GB to 40 GB while the monthly fee of ¥2,970 remains the same. The same 10 GB increase is applied to the larger “big‑size” option, moving it from 110 GB to 120 GB. Company executives, including President Yoshihiro Maeda, said the change is a trial to observe how customers use the extra capacity as video streaming, gaming and other data‑intensive services grow. The data gathered will inform future plan design and service improvements. The move is presented as a strategic response to rising data demand rather than a simple price cut, and SoftBank’s CEO has indicated the carrier will not follow the increase.
