Nu Holdings expands into U.S. market with new digital banking services
Nu Holdings, the digital banking giant behind Nubank, is expanding its international footprint with a launch into the United States market. Through a partnership with Lead Bank, an FDIC member, the company is offering U.S. customers deposit accounts with a 3.50% variable APY, credit cards with cashback rewards, and international transfer services.
Alongside its U.S. entry, the company introduced Nu Global, a multi-currency digital account designed to facilitate transfers across more than 35 countries by converting deposits into USDC and EURC stablecoins. While Nu has applied for a bank charter in the U.S., it currently operates through partner institutions while awaiting necessary regulatory approvals.
The expansion follows strong financial performance for the company. In the second quarter of 2026, Nu reported net income exceeding $1 billion, a 49% increase year-over-year. The company's total customer base has reached approximately 140 million, with significant presence in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.
