Nubank corporate expansion and financial growth

Overview

In July 2026, Nubank announced plans to acquire 100% of Banco Porto Real de Investimentos. The acquisition of the Rio de Janeiro-based bank was intended to secure a full banking licence to comply with Brazil’s Joint Resolution No. 17, which regulates the use of the term “bank”. The move was part of a broader R$ 45 billion investment programme in Brazil and was expected to maintain the company’s existing service model and branding.

By August 2026, Nu Holdings, Nubank’s parent company, reported record financial results for the second quarter of 2026. The quarterly net profit reached approximately $1.06 billion to $1.1 billion, marking the first time the digital lender has surpassed the US$ 1 billion threshold in a single quarter. This represents a 49% increase from the previous year on a foreign-exchange-neutral basis. Gross revenue also saw a 39% year-on-year increase, totaling roughly $5.88 billion to $5.9 billion, while the Return on Equity (ROE) rose to 33%.

The company’s global customer base reached 139 million users across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. In Mexico, the company has become a major digital player and the largest digital bank, reaching approximately 16 million customers, while the Brazilian user base stands at nearly 118 million. Regarding its credit portfolio, the company reported a 37% annual growth to $39.4 billion. Although early delinquency rates (15 to 90 days) saw a slight decrease to 4.8%, the delinquency rate for loans overdue by more than 90 days saw an increase to 6.9%. Management attributed this rise to the “seasonal migration of delays from the first quarter.” Additionally, the company is preparing for a debut in the United States.
