Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas chosen as host for Nahdlatul Ulama’s 35th Muktamar
The Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) central board (PBNU) has designated Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas in Jombang, East Java, as the venue for the organization’s 35th Muktamar. The decision follows a survey of nine pesantren across five provinces and was announced after a joint Syuriyah‑Tanfidziyah meeting. The gathering is slated for late August 2026 and will bring roughly 6,000 participants from across Indonesia to discuss strategic programmes, evaluate past work, and elect new leadership.
Preparations are already under way. The pesantren’s management has formed a task‑force to ready venues, including the K.H. Hasbullah Said multipurpose hall, a two‑hectare parking lot, bazaar areas and rest facilities. Officials say infrastructure is largely in place, with only minor finishing touches remaining. The selection of Tambakberas underscores the historical and educational role of the pesantren, which dates back to the 19th‑century founder KH Abdus Salam and has produced numerous NU scholars.
