Pix reaches record 318 million daily transactions amid U.S. trade tensions
Brazil’s instant payment system, Pix, reached a new daily transaction record on Friday, September 4, with 318,073,816 operations totaling R$ 186.89 billion. This surpasses the previous record set on December 5, 2025, which saw 313,339,828 transactions and R$ 179.93 billion in volume. The average value per transaction rose to R$ 587.58.
The record comes amid escalating trade tensions with the United States. The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has alleged that Pix and other Brazilian policies favor domestic companies over American competitors, contributing to a 25% surcharge on Brazilian exports.
Central Bank President Gabriel Galípolo defended the system, stating it provides benefits to the public and private sectors and serves as a secure, free digital payment method. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also addressed the issue, defending the country's technological autonomy and planning to discuss the matter with U.S. leadership.
