Nuevo Laredo partners with UN and launches student internet program
The government of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, has entered into a strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mexico. Through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal and UNDP resident representative Silvia Morimoto, the municipality aims to strengthen technical capacities regarding gender equality, human rights, and the reduction of inequality gaps in alignment with the 2030 Agenda.
Additionally, the municipal administration has launched the ‘CONECT4T al Futuro’ program to provide free mobile connectivity to 10,000 university students. Beneficiaries will receive a SIM card featuring 14 GB of data, unlimited social media, calls, and messages, valid from September 1 through December 31, 2026. The initiative seeks to reduce the digital divide and alleviate the economic burden on families by ensuring students have the necessary tools for academic research and communication.
