Nuevo Laredo student and social development initiatives

Overview

The government of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, continues to implement social development and student support initiatives. Building on its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the ‘CONECT4T al Futuro’ connectivity program, the administration has formalized a collaboration agreement with the Instituto Tecnológico de Nuevo Laredo. Led by Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, this pact aims to bridge the gap between education and the productive sector by facilitating professional residencies, internships, and job placement through ties with local companies.

As the August-December academic cycle began, the Instituto Tecnológico reported an enrollment of approximately 3,850 students, including 1,050 new enrollments. Director Benito Sánchez Raya noted institutional growth, particularly in virtual education, and highlighted previous municipal support for campus infrastructure and athletics.

Furthering the focus on student innovation, the Universidad Tecnológica de Nuevo Laredo (UTNL) held a Technological Projects and Services Exhibition. Rector José Antonio Tovar Lara reported that approximately 140 student projects, designed to provide technical and social solutions for the productive sector, were presented and evaluated by external company representatives. These educational advancements occur alongside broader municipal efforts to improve economic access, such as the ‘Empleo en tu Colonia’ job fair, and reported improvements in local security stability.
