Nuevo Laredo distributes 9,000 subsidized blocks for housing
The municipal government of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, is providing subsidized construction materials through its Bloquera Comunitaria program. To date, approximately 9,000 blocks have been distributed to local families seeking to expand or improve their homes.
Under the program, blocks are sold for 15 pesos each, which represents a savings of 30% to 35% compared to commercial market prices. Beyond material costs, the Municipal Institute of Housing and Urban Land (IMVISU) provides free technical assistance. This includes guidance from engineers and architects regarding foundations and dimensions, as well as assistance with obtaining construction permits at no additional charge.
To qualify, applicants must undergo a socioeconomic study. Municipal personnel from IMVISU and the Municipal Institute of Research, Planning, and Urban Development (IMPLAD) also conduct home visits to assess specific project needs and determine the required amount of material.
