Mexican officials honor lawyers on Day of the Lawyer

On July 12, 2026 Mexican authorities in several states commemorated the Day of the Lawyer with ceremonies, awards and public remarks.

In Baja California, the state secretary of government presented a distinction to the governor and highlighted the creation of the first State Legal Counsel, emphasizing the need for a socially oriented justice system. The Mexican Social Security Institute in Veracruz North recognized the work of 32 legal professionals for ensuring legal certainty and institutional strengthening.

The governor of Coahuila praised the state's legal community, stating that the rule of law rests on the commitment of lawyers. In Guerrero, Governor Evelyn Salgado awarded the 2026 Legal Merit Prizes to jurists for defending citizens’ rights and reinforcing institutions.

The Oaxaca Bar Association marked its 38th anniversary by honoring jurists, academics and public servants with medals and merit recognitions. In Chiapas, the Institute of Legal Counsel conducted a training workshop for public‑sector lawyers and presented commendations for professional merit.

Nuevo Laredo’s mayor, Carmen Lilia Canturosas, delivered multiple statements acknowledging the contributions of attorneys throughout Tamaulipas, describing the legal profession as essential for justice, transparency and democratic development. Collectively, these events reflect a nationwide emphasis on valuing the legal profession and reinforcing the rule of law in Mexico.
