Nuevo Laredo mayor expands business corridor and backs civil groups
The municipal government of Nuevo Laredo, led by Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, signed an Inter‑Institutional Agreement to create the Tamaulipas Economic Corridor with the city of Tampico. The pact involves about 360 companies—170 from Nuevo Laredo—and aims to give entrepreneurs access to new markets across the state and country. Programs will include business training, matchmaking events, best‑practice exchanges and partnerships with major retailers. Target sectors are gastronomy, agro‑industry, logistics, commerce and foreign trade, leveraging Nuevo Laredo’s role as a key international trade hub and Tampico’s industrial and tourism infrastructure.
In parallel, the Directorate of Social Linkage provides monthly financial support to 21 civil associations in Nuevo Laredo. Associations such as the Animal Protection Association, Hospital of Wheelchairs, ANSPAC, the Pro‑Mental Disability Patronage, Ángeles sin Frontera and Cáritas receive funds after submitting detailed expense reports. The assistance is part of the mayor’s human‑centred policy to strengthen services for vulnerable populations, covering health, disability, animal welfare and food security.
Both initiatives reflect a strategy to boost economic competitiveness while reinforcing social safety nets in the border city.
