Nuevo Laredo municipal housing program expands to 785 families
The Nuevo Laredo municipal government’s Bloquera Comunitaria program has enrolled 785 families to receive subsidized construction blocks and technical assistance for home extensions. Blocks are offered at 15 pesos each, with each package containing about 400 pieces—enough to build a 3 × 3 meter room—for an investment of roughly 6,000 pesos per family.
Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal said the initiative aims to improve living standards by facilitating additional rooms, fences and other improvements. IMVISU director Carlos Montiel Saeb explained that specialists visit homes to assess needs, calculate foundations, determine material quantities and guide families through safe construction. Beneficiaries can also join a “Tanda de Materiales” scheme to acquire other supplies gradually, and the institute assists with building permits.
