Nuevo Laredo officials coordinate healthcare improvements amid medicine shortages

Authorities in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, are working to strengthen local healthcare services through increased coordination between municipal and state government levels. During a recent meeting, Tamaulipas Health Secretary Ricardo Gerardo Guerrero Morales and District Health Director Miguel Ángel García Zúñiga discussed strategies to improve medical attention and address sanitary needs for local families.

Despite these coordination efforts, local leaders have raised alarms regarding shortages of specialized medicines and surgical supplies. Francisco Mejía Barrientos, president of the Council of Institutions, reported that while basic medicines like antibiotics and analgesics are available, there is a critical lack of high-cost drugs required for treating chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, renal, and cardiovascular diseases. The Council intends to present these shortages to state health authorities to ensure patients have necessary supplies for hospitalizations and surgical procedures.
