Nuevo Laredo Leads Hepatitis C Cases While Ranking Among Safest Cities in Tamaulipas

Nuevo Laredo recorded the highest number of detected hepatitis C cases in Tamaulipas during the first half of 2026, with roughly thirty confirmed infections and about ten patients already under treatment. In the same period, the city’s perception of insecurity fell sharply, dropping from 34.8 % to 26.5 % between March and June 2026 – an 8.3‑point reduction that placed Nuevo Laredo as the municipality with the best security perception in the state and seventh nationally. The ENSU survey also showed notable improvements in municipal services: pothole concerns fell from 82.6 to 75.5 points, street‑lighting issues from 63.8 to 53.9 points, water‑supply failures from 67.8 to 58.5 points, and drainage deficiencies from 59.3 to 44.8 points. Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas attributed these gains to coordinated security actions among municipal, state and federal authorities and to sustained investment in public‑service maintenance and rehabilitation.
