Nuevo Laredo sees surge in diarrheal disease cases amid summer heat

Municipal health officials in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, report a sharp rise in consultations for diarrheal and other gastrointestinal illnesses as summer temperatures climb. Jesús González, director of the municipal health department, said the heat accelerates food spoilage, prompting the 12 UNE clinics to see the highest volume of such cases. The clinics continue to offer free treatment and have sufficient medication stocks. Liliana Arjona, secretary of Social Welfare, urged residents to practice strict food‑handling hygiene and to seek care promptly for symptoms such as diarrhea, dehydration or heat‑related malaise. No severe cases have been recorded. Authorities also announced upcoming influenza, pneumococcal and COVID‑19 vaccination campaigns for the fall season.
