NUPRC warns of AI-generated fake job letters and employment scams

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued a warning regarding a surge in fraudulent employment schemes targeting job seekers. Scammers are reportedly circulating fake and AI-generated appointment letters that use the names of individuals unaffiliated with the commission.

In addition to the forged documents, the NUPRC reported that criminal elements are extorting money from the public by falsely claiming to have the connections necessary to secure positions within the agency. The commission has reported these activities to law enforcement agencies for investigation.

The NUPRC clarified that there is currently no ongoing recruitment exercise at the organization. Officials emphasized that any future recruitment processes will be conducted strictly in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations, urging the public to verify all employment-related information before making payments.
