Nurse and student dies in Barahona ambulance accident

A 34-year-old nurse and student, identified as Josely “Yoja” Báez, died early Sunday morning following a traffic accident in the Fondo Negro community of Barahona.

Báez was traveling in a National Emergency and Security 911 System ambulance while transporting a wounded minor to Santo Domingo for specialized medical care. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and fell into a precipice. While the exact circumstances of the crash are still being investigated, the accident resulted in the death of the nurse and reportedly affected other occupants of the vehicle.

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Barahona Campus, expressed profound grief over the loss. The campus director, Ana Lucía Beltré, noted that Báez was a disciplined and intelligent student at the institution, describing the incident as a significant loss for the university community.
