Nursing professionals threaten strikes over contract and salary disputes

The President of the College of Nursing Professionals, Julia Benítez, has warned of potential informative assemblies and a labor strike if the government fails to meet commitments regarding nursing staff hiring and stability.

Benítez noted that previous assemblies were temporarily suspended following promises from the Secretariat of Health to establish agreements. Key demands include the payment of overdue salaries to 16 nurses, who have reportedly not been paid since January, and resolving the employment status of 480 nurses currently working under interim contracts.

While some medical personnel have seen progress in their labor situations, Benítez expressed concern that some nursing staff are being dismissed. A technical meeting is scheduled for next Friday to address these demands; if no agreements are reached, the union may resume assemblies and consider a strike.
