Nurul Izzah Anwar to take leave from PKR for studies
Nurul Izzah Anwar, the Deputy President of the People's Justice Party (PKR), will take a temporary leave of absence from her duties to pursue further studies. The party's Central Leadership Council has agreed to this leave, which is set to begin following the 2026 PKR National Congress.
PKR Secretary-General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that there is no fixed duration for the leave, allowing Nurul Izzah to determine her own timeline. However, she is required to complete all tasks related to the upcoming National Congress before her leave commences. The party has expressed readiness to welcome her back to her duties once she is prepared to resume.
In one of her final speeches before her departure, delivered at the opening of the Wanita PKR and PKR Youth congresses in Melaka, Nurul Izzah urged party members to remain steadfast in their principles. She cautioned the party against losing sight of the reformist values that defined its time in the opposition, warning members to avoid becoming like the opponents they once fought against while holding power.
