The earthquake, which occurred at 04:58 WIB on Saturday, August 15, 2026, caused extensive damage across three provinces and nine regencies. BNPB reports that 38,898 houses were damaged, including 14,735 severe damages. Public infrastructure has also been heavily impacted, with 502 educational facilities, 244 health facilities, and 220 places of worship among the affected structures.

As of August 21, 2026, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geofisika Agency (BMKG) has recorded 4,256 aftershocks, with magnitudes ranging from M1.1 to M6.2. While aftershocks continue, BMKG officials state that none have exceeded the magnitude of the initial M7.7 quake. Emergency response efforts are ongoing, utilizing helicopters to deliver logistics to isolated areas due to damaged road access.
