Nusa Tenggara Timur earthquake death toll reaches 87
The death toll from the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has risen to 87 people, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The fatalities are distributed across several regions, with Manggarai recording 31 deaths and Manggarai Timur recording 30. Other reported deaths occurred in Nagekeo (13), Sikka (9), Ngada (4), Ende (2), and West Manggarai (1).
Approximately 1,298 people have been injured, including 336 who sustained serious injuries. The number of displaced persons has surged to 150,576 as ongoing aftershocks continue to affect the region. The highest concentrations of displaced residents are in Manggarai (41,427), Nagekeo (34,256), and East Manggarai (31,372).
Since the initial 7.7 magnitude earthquake on August 15, 2026, there have been 5,012 aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1.1 to 6.2. Emergency response efforts involve 5,832 military personnel, 238 police officers, and 903 volunteers from 104 organizations to assist with disaster management and the fulfillment of basic needs.
