Nusakambangan prisons receive 313 high-risk inmates from five regions

The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) transferred 313 high-risk inmates to prisons on Nusakambangan Island, Central Java, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The move aims to tighten security and optimize rehabilitation for prisoners categorized as high-risk, particularly those who have committed violations within correctional facilities.

The transferred inmates originated from five regions: West Java (125), Jakarta (57), East Java (45), Lampung (47), and South Sumatra (39).

A significant portion of the transfer involves 120 inmates from the Depok Class I Detention Center following a public scandal involving a video of a suspected drug party. Internal investigations confirmed that some inmates tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The incident, which featured inmates dancing with suspected drug paraphernalia, has also led to reports that a facility employee may be involved and has been referred to the police.
