Depok detention center drug smuggling scandal
Overview
An investigation into the Depok Detention Center (Rutan Depok) was initiated after a viral TikTok video depicted inmates participating in a drug party. Authorities discovered a methamphetamine smuggling ring where an officer, identified by the initial S, allegedly acted as an intermediary. The officer reportedly received Rp1 million per delivery to collect drug packages sent via online motorcycle taxi services.
Two inmates, AA and SW, tested positive for narcotics. Following these findings, the Head of Security at Rutan Depok reported two staff members to the Depok Metro Police for potential sanctions.
In response to the scandal and to tighten security, the Directorate General of Corrections transferred 120 inmates from the Depok facility to prisons on Nusakambangan Island. They were part of a larger group of 313 high-risk inmates moved from five different regions to optimize rehabilitation and security for those categorized as high-risk or having committed facility violations.
