NuScale Power prepares for SMR deployment amid rising AI energy demand
NuScale Power Corporation has announced that it has met the necessary preconditions for the commercial deployment of its small modular reactor (SMR) technology. CEO John Hopkins stated that the company has secured regulatory approval, established fuel supplies, and developed a contracted supply chain to support its next growth phase.
The company is currently in discussions with ENTRA1 Energy and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) regarding a potential deployment of up to 6 gigawatts of nuclear power. This project, which could provide enough energy for approximately 4.5 million homes or 60 data centers, is a major focus as demand for carbon-free electricity rises due to the energy requirements of AI workloads.
Financially, NuScale reported $1.9 billion in liquidity, providing a runway for its project pipeline. However, the company's Q2 2026 revenue saw a significant decline to approximately $0.1 million, down from $8.1 million in the same period the previous year. Despite this, the company's stock has recently shown signs of an early-stage recovery, reclaiming its 20-day and 50-day moving averages.
