NuScale Power's SMR Projects and Stock Slide Amid Delayed Deployments

NuScale Power, the only U.S. company with an NRC‑certified small modular reactor (SMR) design, is planning to deploy six 77 MW reactors in a 462 MW plant for Romania’s RoPower and up to six gigawatts of SMR capacity for the Tennessee Valley Authority across seven U.S. states. The company does not expect commercial reactors to operate until the early 2030s, and most of its current revenue comes from engineering, licensing and consulting work.

NuScale’s shares have fallen about 75% over the past year, trading around $10 per share after a record high of $53 in 2025. Analysts cite the lack of firm sales and the need to prove the economic case for SMRs as key risks, while noting the firm’s first‑mover advantage, government support for nuclear expansion, and potential demand from utilities replacing coal and from AI data centers.
