Nut consumption linked to lower hypertension risk in meta-analysis
A meta-analysis published in the British Journal of Nutrition involving over 143,000 adults suggests that regular nut consumption can reduce the risk of hypertension. Based on eight prospective cohort studies covering 20,665 cases of hypertension, the data indicates that a daily intake of approximately 30 grams provides the most significant risk reduction, noting a saturation point beyond which additional consumption offers little statistical benefit.
Medical guidelines and clinical reports highlight that hypertension is often asymptomatic, but symptoms such as dizziness, morning headaches, tinnitus, and fatigue can emerge. Dizziness specifically is noted as a warning sign when blood pressure reaches levels above 140/90 mmHg. According to 2024 ESC guidelines, blood pressure is considered normal up to 120/70 mmHg, elevated between 120-139/70-89 mmHg, and hypertensive at 140/90 mmHg or higher. A hypertensive crisis is defined by readings exceeding 180/110 mmHg, which may require immediate emergency medical intervention if accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, or confusion.
