Croatia marks 35th anniversary of Homeland War milestones
Croatia is observing the 35th anniversary of key events from the Homeland War through various commemorations across the country.
In Zagreb, officials marked the anniversary of the shelling of Banski dvori, noting that the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) failed to decapitate the newly elected Croatian government. This period also saw the Croatian Parliament make the historic decision to sever all constitutional ties with the former Yugoslavia.
Regional commemorations included the defense of Zadar, where officials honored defenders who prevented the takeover of the city. In Nova Drenčina, residents and officials remembered the 35th anniversary of the settlement's destruction and the displacement of its inhabitants.
In the Slavonia region, ceremonies were held in Orlovnjak and Nuštar to honor fallen defenders and civilians. Defense Minister Ivan Anušić attended the Orlovnjak memorial, reflecting on the intense combat and the ongoing search for missing persons from that period.
