Nutrition and health initiatives addressed in Paraguay and Chile

In Paraguay, the National School Feeding Council (Conae) has established a preventive protocol to ensure food security for students during potential climate emergencies, such as those caused by El Niño. Under Resolution No. 012/2026, if the Ministry of Education suspends in-person classes in favor of remote learning, the Hambre Cero program will transition from providing fresh meals to delivering food kits. These kits will be designed according to technical specifications from the National Institute of Food and Nutrition (INAN) and managed by the National Directorate of Public Procurement (DNCP).

In Chile, the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies is calling for reinforced prevention measures following the 2025 Nutritional Map released by Junaeb. The data indicates that 51.7% of evaluated students suffer from excess malnutrition, with 24.8% presenting obesity. Lawmakers have requested detailed information from the ministries of Health, Education, and Sports regarding program budgets, the effectiveness of current healthy eating regulations, and regional gaps in access to medical and nutritional specialists.
