Nutrition and weight management trends show new product shifts and study results
New food and beverage developments are targeting diverse consumer needs, ranging from weight management to aged care nutrition. In Australia, Marley Spoon has expanded its meal kit offerings to include breakfast, single-serve meals, and specialized ranges for high-protein and GLP-1 support, with the latter seeing 110% month-on-month growth. Additionally, The Pure Food Co has introduced nutrient-rich smoothies specifically designed for residents in aged care homes.
Regarding weight management, a University of Liverpool study published in the British Journal of Nutrition suggests that diet drinks and water may perform similarly for long-term weight loss. In a two-year study of adults with overweight or obesity, those drinking water maintained an average loss of 8.2 pounds, while the diet-drink group maintained approximately 10.6 pounds. Researchers noted the difference was not statistically significant. The study was funded by the American Beverage Association, though authors stated the funder was not involved in the trial's design or interpretation.
