Nutritional roles and effects of MSM and magnesium

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organic sulfur compound that provides essential sulfur to the human body. While sulfur makes up only 0.2 percent of the body, its deficiency may be linked to joint discomfort, liver issues, vision and circulation problems, depression, anxiety, and skin or hair issues.

Magnesium is another vital trace element involved in over 600 bodily reactions, including energy metabolism, nervous system function, and muscle function. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily intake of 350 mg for men and 300 mg for women. While oral magnesium therapy is generally considered safe, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) notes that doses exceeding 250 mg (including dietary intake) may increase the risk of side effects.
