Nutritional supplements pose health risks without professional guidance
Experts are warning against the unsupervised consumption of dietary supplements such as creatine, whey protein, and multivitamins. Nutritionist Rafaela Kherlakian notes that improper use can lead to inadequate nutrient intake, gastrointestinal discomfort, and dangerous interactions with medications.
A significant risk involves the indiscriminate use of multivitamins and the mixing of multiple products, which can cause ingredient overlap and excessive dosages. Specifically, fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) can accumulate in the body and lead to toxicity if consumed in excess.
While whey protein is a practical protein source for athletes or the elderly, it cannot replace complete meals. Additionally, as demand for these products grows, consumers are advised to verify product authenticity by researching brand reputations, analyzing nutritional labels for protein content, and looking for independent quality certifications to avoid counterfeit or low-quality goods.
