NVIDIA launches DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering

NVIDIA has officially launched DLSS 5, featuring 3D-Guided Neural Rendering, debuting in NBA 2K27. Unlike previous iterations focused on upscaling, this technology uses generative AI to reconstruct lighting, materials, and environmental geometry in real-time.

While initially intended to be exclusive to the GeForce RTX 50 Series (Blackwell architecture), NVIDIA has reversed this decision following community backlash and successful modding efforts. The company confirmed that official support will be extended to the GeForce RTX 40 Series (Ada Lovelace) once performance optimizations for the 50 Series are complete.

Early testing and reports indicate that the technology is highly demanding. Some users have noted performance drops of 50% to 60% in certain titles, and high power consumption has been observed. For gamers, DLSS 5 will operate as a simple on/off toggle, while developers will maintain granular control over artistic elements like structure and tone intensity. Several major publishers, including Ubisoft and Capcom, have confirmed plans to implement DLSS 5 patches for flagship titles through late 2026 and early 2027.
