NVIDIA launches DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering

NVIDIA has officially launched DLSS 5, introducing 3D-Guided Neural Rendering to bridge the gap between real-time graphics and cinematic photorealism. The technology debuts with NBA 2K27, serving as a showcase for the new capabilities. However, the high computational cost of DLSS 5 has been noted, with some tests showing performance drops of 50% to 60% on high-end hardware without the use of Multi Frame Generation.

In response to these performance challenges, modders have developed workarounds like the 'Neural Upstream' method to optimize the rendering pipeline. Additionally, community modders have successfully unlocked DLSS Multi-Frame Generation for older RTX 30 series GPUs by leveraging the AI-powered optical flow model used in DLSS 4.

The rollout includes support for various titles such as Honeycomb: The World Beyond, WARDOGS, and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS via DLSS 4.5 updates. Hardware availability for DLSS 5 is currently focused on the GeForce RTX 50 series, though GeForce NOW Ultimate subscribers can access the technology via cloud servers powered by RTX 5080 GPUs.
