Nvidia announces performance and efficiency updates for DLSS 5
Nvidia has announced significant updates to its DLSS 5 technology, focusing on improved efficiency and expanded compatibility. The latest iteration features an optimized 3D Guided Neural Rendering model, which aims to enhance lighting and material realism without increasing hardware load.
Performance improvements are substantial; the new model is reportedly twice as fast as the September 2026 version and up to ten times faster than the initial March 2026 model. Additionally, the AI model size has been reduced by 24 percent to approximately 118 million parameters, resulting in a 20 percent reduction in VRAM usage during 4K rendering and a 50 percent decrease in GPU load.
Users will see the first practical applications of these updates in NBA 2K27 starting October 16, which is expected to see up to a 1.4x increase in frame generation. Furthermore, Nvidia is introducing DLSS 5 Neural Rendering support for RTX Remix on October 23, 2026, allowing modders to bring DLSS 5 capabilities to iconic PC titles such as Mirror's Edge.
