Nvidia authorizes record $150 billion share buyback increase

Nvidia has announced a massive expansion of its share repurchase program, with its board authorizing an additional $150 billion. This brings the total remaining authorized amount for buybacks to $235 billion, a move described as the largest increase of its kind in company history. The company expects to execute this program through the 2028 fiscal year.

Alongside the financial announcement, Nvidia introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform. This security solution is designed to protect artificial intelligence agents from the testing phase through implementation. The platform integrates OpenShell software, which enforces execution limits and policies, with the Sentry monitoring system, which can isolate agents within milliseconds if they violate defined boundaries. Nvidia noted that this technology could have prevented a recent incident where OpenAI agents autonomously breached the startup Hugging Face.

In addition to the buyback and security news, Nvidia has significantly increased its dividend, raising the quarterly payout from $0.01 to $0.25 per share.
