Nvidia-branded trailers stolen in California contain only sand

Two trailers belonging to PlusAI, an autonomous trucking company, were stolen in Newark, California, after thieves were apparently lured by Nvidia branding. Instead of high-value AI hardware or GPUs, the thieves discovered the trailers contained approximately 20,000 pounds of sand in each.

PlusAI uses the sand to simulate the weight of actual cargo during testing of its self-driving technology. Lauren Kwan, a marketing vice president at PlusAI, suggested that the Nvidia logo may have attracted the thieves, noting that the company had not experienced such an incident in its ten years of operation.

The trailers were recovered after being spotted near another company's office. The Fremont Police Department confirmed that the trailers were returned and that the case remains under investigation, though no arrests have been made. No equipment was reported stolen or damaged.
