Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlights AI-driven labor demand and sparks debate over Asian parenting remarks

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said the expansion of artificial‑intelligence infrastructure will create a massive need for skilled tradespeople. He told Channel 4 News that electricians, plumbers, welders and other technicians will be essential for building new data centers, chip factories and assembly plants, estimating demand for hundreds of thousands of workers in the coming years. Huang cited Nvidia’s $100 billion investment in OpenAI and a forecast that global data‑center spending could reach $7 trillion by 2030, noting many of these jobs pay over $100,000 a year and often do not require a university degree.

In a separate talk at Stanford University, Huang made a joking remark that people raised by Asian parents “will never feel satisfied… you will have to see a psychologist your whole life.” The comment went viral on Chinese‑language social media, dividing opinion. Some users agreed it captured the pressure of high‑expectation upbringing, while others condemned it as offensive. Huang described the attitude as a “double‑edged sword,” arguing it drives ambition but can also cause lasting mental‑health strain.
