NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology leaks via NBA 2K27 early access
Unreleased NVIDIA DLSS 5 technology has leaked via the early access build of NBA 2K27. The leak includes a 158 MB file, nvngx_dlssnr.dll, which contains the neural rendering component intended for the upcoming Blackwell architecture.
Modders from the RenoDX community have successfully reverse-engineered the file to inject the technology into other titles, including Control, Elden Ring, and The Last of Us Part II. While the technology aims to enhance photorealism by using AI to reconstruct lighting, materials, and skin textures, initial tests have sparked significant controversy. Users have criticized the results as creating an “uncanny valley” effect, often altering established game art styles into something more generic or “yassified.”
Technical testing reveals a substantial performance cost. Modders report that enabling the neural rendering feature can reduce frame rates by 40% to 60%. Despite being officially intended for the RTX 50-series, modders like Uncle Burrito have found ways to bypass architecture restrictions, allowing the technology to run on RTX 40-series cards like the RTX 4090 by replacing incompatible CUDA binaries.
