NVIDIA DLSS 5 leaked and tested by modders in multiple games
Modders have successfully implemented an unofficial version of NVIDIA’s unreleased DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology across various video games, following a leak of files from the early access build of NBA 2K27. The technology, which utilizes AI to inject photorealistic lighting, materials, and facial details, has been tested in titles such as Control, Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, and GTA 5.
While the visual improvements are described by some as “next-generation” and “impressive,” the community response is highly polarized. Many users have criticized the results as “AI slop,” noting that the technology can create an “uncanny valley” effect, making character faces look unnatural or overly processed.
Performance is a major concern. Initial tests show significant frame rate drops, with some users reporting losses of over 50% to 97% in FPS depending on the hardware. While the leaked files were primarily intended for the RTX 50 series (Blackwell architecture), modders have managed to run the technology on RTX 40 and even RTX 30 series cards, though with even more severe performance penalties.
