Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti GPU hidden hotspot sensor shows throttling

Nvidia’s Blackwell‑generation graphics cards hide the hotspot temperature sensor from consumer diagnostic tools. Brazilian repair specialists discovered that the GeForce RTX 5000 series, including the RTX 5070 Ti, can reach a hotspot of 107 °C and trigger automatic throttling, while Windows utilities report only about 68 °C.

The hidden sensor can be accessed with Nvidia’s internal MODS (Modular Diagnostics Software) tool, which reveals the real maximum temperature on the GPU die. Tests on a Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti showed five throttling events in a single run, caused by uneven application of thermal paste that left the chip’s centre dry. Re‑applying paste lowered the hotspot to around 100 °C and eliminated the throttling. The specialists reported the same issue across multiple RTX 5000‑series cards, linking it to poor cooler contact or paste quality. Nvidia has removed the hotspot reading from public tools but the sensor remains on the hardware.
