Nvidia RTX 50 sensor monitoring and overclocking updates
Overview
In mid-July 2026, Brazilian repair technicians discovered a hidden hotspot temperature sensor in Nvidia’s Blackwell-generation RTX 5000-series cards. They noted extreme die readings of up to 107 °C that triggered automatic throttling, even while consumer software reported much lower temperatures. Tests on a Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti revealed that uneven thermal paste application caused multiple throttling events, which were resolved by re-applying paste.
Two days later, CPUID’s HWMonitor 1.65 re-exposed the hotspot and added a second VRM sensor, allowing users to diagnose cooling issues like poor contact or thermal paste quality. Overclockers, such as “Madness,” used this to monitor a shunt-modded, water-cooled RTX 5090 drawing over 900 W, noting a 17 °C delta between the hotspot (68 °C) and average GPU temperature (51 °C).
By 20 July, community modders had unlocked per-module GDDR7 memory temperature data, with HWiNFO beta providing granular thermal points for individual modules. On 22 July, enthusiast Paulo Gomes reverse-engineered the series, extending sensor access across the RTX 5050–5090 range for tools like MSI Afterburner. Concurrently, increased RTX 5060 supply in Brazil saw prices drop to approximately 2,000 BRL.
On 18 August, the HYDRA 2.3B Pro overclocking tool by Yuri Bubliy introduced an update to bypass Nvidia’s factory power and overclocking restrictions. The tool allows users to increase GDDR7 memory speeds up to 36 Gbps and raise power limits to 125% of factory settings, with experimental support added for RTX PRO 6000 professional cards.
