NVIDIA launches native GeForce NOW app for Linux

NVIDIA has officially released its native GeForce NOW cloud gaming application for Linux, marking the end of its beta testing phase. The application provides Linux users with a stable, high-performance alternative to browser-based streaming, specifically supporting Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and other distributions via a new official Flatpak repository.

Key technical updates include optimizations to DLSS Frame Generation in the cloud, which aim to reduce latency and improve responsiveness for users streaming at 1440p or 4K resolutions at 60 or 120 FPS. Performance tier subscribers will also benefit from server-side software enhancements designed to boost frame rates in CPU-intensive titles. The service also targets Chromebook users, enabling high-end RTX-level gaming on everyday educational hardware.

In a related development for the Linux ecosystem, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the company is also developing a native version of the Epic Games Launcher for Linux. This upcoming store will be designed specifically for the platform, utilizing Flatpak for distribution and potentially including features to manage compatibility layers and console-style interface profiles.
