Nvidia reportedly to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion
Nvidia has reportedly reached an agreement to acquire the AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. While neither company has officially confirmed the deal, reports suggest the acquisition would grant the chipmaker control over one of the industry's largest repositories of open-source AI models, datasets, and users.
Hugging Face, often described as the ‘GitHub of AI’, serves over 13 million users and hosts more than 2 million public models. The proposed price represents a significant premium over its $4.5 billion valuation in 2023. The move is seen as a strategic effort by Nvidia to solidify its position across the AI ecosystem, especially as competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic seek to develop proprietary hardware.
The news coincides with Nvidia's strong fiscal Q2 2027 financial results. The company reported a 106% year-on-year revenue increase to $96.2 billion, driven largely by data center revenue, which more than doubled to $89 billion. Net income for the period rose 126% to $59.7 billion.
