Nvidia to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium for AI power infrastructure

Nvidia is planning to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based power infrastructure developer, to secure the energy resources required for AI data centers. According to reports, the deal includes an initial $2 billion investment for a roughly 20% stake, with an additional $1 billion possible if Lancium meets specific milestones, such as securing connections to the electrical grid.

Lancium, which is backed by Blackstone, is a key developer for the Stargate data center initiative—a joint venture between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle. The company manages the 1,000-acre Lancium Clean Campus in Abilene, Texas, which serves as the first operational site for Stargate. The investment reflects a strategic shift for Nvidia as it moves beyond semiconductor manufacturing to secure the physical power and land infrastructure necessary to support its high-performance AI chips.

Lancium's enterprise value, including its land assets and power connections, is estimated at approximately $10 billion. The capital infusion is expected to support Lancium's expansion as it explores a potential initial public offering (IPO) in 2027.
